- ‘Breathe’ is the latest single from Brighton dream-poppers Thyla.
- The band have been making waves in the press and on festivals stages since their 2017 debut.
- FFO: Chvrches, The Ninth Wave & Pale Waves.
Since their first release back in 2017, Thyla are a band known for their hard-hitting rhythms and reverb-drenched guitars. Their “What’s On Your Mind” EP, released in 2019, took the band to festivals such as SXSW, The Great Escape and Live at Leeds, before the now-infamous 2020 put a pin in any live plans the band had. Despite the setbacks, Thyla have released a four-track EP and two singles in the past year. ‘Breathe’ is their latest release.

“I’ve been coping well, I’m good on the inside” sings Millie Duthie, Thyla’s lead singer. It’s an optimistic outlook and one that’s echoed through the rest of ‘Breathe’, providing a refreshing change from the regular doom and gloom the past year has provided. She’s backed up by Thyla’s signature combination of guitars, synths and a tight rhythm section to create a slick and focused track. The production, courtesy of Josh “Hoagie” Harrison, known for his work with Royal Blood and British Sea Power, kicks ‘Breathe’ up a notch, its stunning soundscape becoming Thyla’s calling card.
With a melody fit for the next 1975 hit, outstanding production from one of the industry’s hottest names, and a refreshingly positive attitude, ‘Breathe’ is a winner. There’s plenty more to come from Thyla in the coming year and we can’t wait to hear it. ‘Breathe’ is out now on LAB Records.
