Cabbage aren’t a band to shy away from difficult subjects. Calling out Brexiteers on ‘Raus!’ and channelling the Sex Pistols in ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’, Cabbage are known as a political band, describing themselves as “apocalyptic sprautrock”.
“Apocalyptic” is right. The video for the band’s latest single ‘Get Outta My Brain’ is meant to reflect the “topsy-turvy, wham-bam schedules we’ve all faced in 2020”. ‘Get Outta My Brain’ is a track that twists and turns over three and a half minutes. Written to reflect the electric energy of the band’s hometown of Manchester, chorus-drenched guitars stab throughout while singer Lee Broadbent’s vocals echo over the instrumental like a call to arms. “Hey there mutilator” is spat at the listener, immediately setting the tone; angry, bitter and determined.
By announcing a tour in 2021 in support of their second album ‘Amanita Pantherina’, Cabbage clearly practice the determination they preach. Support slots with Blossoms and sold-out headline tours leave Cabbage in the best possible position for the new year, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.
