Eli Brown & Talk Show // ‘Trouble’

Words: Danny Gillies / @danny_gillies

  • ‘Trouble’ is a collaboration between Eli Brown and Talk Show.
  • The punk-influenced track is out now on Polydor Records/Universal Music (UK) & Astralwerks (USA).
  • FFO: Two Tribes, Chase and Status & Pendulum.

When unexpected artists collaborate, the end result is either a work of art or a disaster. Eli Brown, famed for his work with dance heavyweights like Calvin Harris & Green Velvet, and South London’s Talk Show, making a name for themselves on the UK punk circuit, have joined forces to produce ‘Trouble’. As left-field collaborations go, ‘Trouble’ is as good as it gets.

It’s a brutal track from start to finish. ‘Trouble’ never lets up, its unrelenting bassline driving the listener through three minutes of intense synths while Talk Show’s Harrison Swann flits between his signature combination of frantic and deadpan vocals. It’s not far from Talk Show’s original material: the fury that fills their own work has not been lost during the switch from guitars to synths. ‘Trouble’ is the result of brave experimentation. The combination of punk and dance is a winning formula and with whispers of more material from the two acts in the near future, we can hope that this is only the beginning.
