Hauskey // ‘Slow’ EP

Words: Danny Gillies / @danny_gillies

  • Dreamy and upbeat, Hauskey’s ‘Slow’ EP is a collection of emotional and nostalgic tracks.
  • The ‘Slow’ EP is out now on Republic Records.
  • FFO: Rex Orange County, Gengahr & Superfood.

Hailing from Western Australia and described as a “harmonic Swiss Army knife”, Hauskey has been making waves wherever he goes. Support from the champion of new indie music in the UK, Jack Saunders, as well as premieres and appearances on Australia’s triple j have seen Hauskey go from strength to strength in the past year.

With no songs on the EP over three minutes long, Hauskey is an expert in bite-sized, catchy tracks. Title track and first single ‘Slow’ is a nostalgic and funky number with a bassline that forces your head to bop, while ‘Silver Lining’ and ‘Plan B’ have a dreamy quality to them. ‘Not Good’ is a highlight, its upbeat bassline and bouncing melody driving the track whilst the keys and guitars are the musical salt and pepper, used in exactly the right amounts to create a brilliantly structured track.

The ‘Slow’ EP is an impressive set of songs, all in the same vein but easily independent. Hauskey has a real talent for this type of songwriting. With the backing of Universal-owned Republic Records, it won’t be long until these tracks reach a much wider audience and everyone has heard of Hauskey.
