VLURE // ‘Shattered Faith’

Words: Danny Gillies / @danny_gillies

  • ‘Shattered Faith’ is the long-awaited first single from VLURE.
  • The five-piece are one of the most exciting bands coming out of the Glasgow scene.
  • FFO: Two Tribes, The Ninth Wave & The Murder Capital.

They’ve been the most mysterious band in Scotland since their announcement in early 2019. Their first performances were at The Great Escape, Tenement Trail and supporting The Murder Capital, and their first and only previous release was a one-track live session filmed in a Glaswegian warehouse. VLURE are finally showing themselves and they’re not messing around.

‘Shattered Faith’ is a relentless, stomping tune. Singer Hamish Hutcheson is like a preacher and one can only imagine that seeing VLURE live is a somewhat religious experience. “I’m nobody’s son” echoes over the track, a powerful statement of independence. The instrumental side of VLURE never let up, hitting the listener with synths, guitars and charging rhythms from all angles. For a debut single, things don’t get much better.

It builds on their only other released material ‘Desire’, but ‘Shattered Faith’ isn’t just the next step: it’s a statement of intent. The track is easily in the running for the best release of 2021. That is, until VLURE release their next single and raise the bar again.
