Art-rock quintet Youth Sector released their debut EP ‘Mundanity’ earlier this year, recently earning them a ‘Next Wave’ spotlight from Jack Saunders on Radio 1’s Indie Show. They now follow up with ‘Teeth’, a single on which the Brighton band evoke Nile Rogers and “embrace the influence of funk bands Parliament and Tower of Power”. ‘Teeth’ is a colourful rush of controlled chaos. While many indie bands seek to emulate the groove of disco and funk, the impressive performance of bassist Josh Doyle really makes this track stand out from the crowd.

Combining their energetic rhythm with stabbing guitars and bizarre synth tones, Youth Sector create a disorientating, slightly alien quality. However, the unusual nature of the track is one which fully invites the listener to get swept up in the fun the band is clearly having. Youth Sector have stated that they are “absolutely aching to play shows in 2021” – it’s not hard to imagine ‘Teeth’ being a crowd pleaser when they do.
